For many of us, Bowen Island epitomizes the notion that Canada is Lotus Land. Here, we live in the land of plenty, great opportunity and especially community. It has a heart of generosity that beats on it’s own, waiting to be directed towards a cause.

Bowen Island, meet BOWEN SHARES!

We know that some of our closest friends are feeling the results of an economy out of control. The shadow of poor economic policy is creeping onto our porch steps, attacking our CD racks and itunes downloads, depleting our cable t.v. packages. Our latte fund is slowly closing, and when we are in the grocery store, we may walk by that imported cheese, tempted, but passing all the same.

And if it gets bad here…what will happen in countries who are already struggling to get their feet on the bottom rung of the ladder that will assist their climb out of poverty?

There are good news story amidst the struggles that we all too often associate with Africa. There are success stories, which are a reflection of those people and organizations on the ground in Africa assisting in the creation of new hope for the entire continent.

We have a unique opportunity to to participate in a good news story. We are one degree of separation away from a community in Ghana (West Africa). Bowen Islanders can share the benefits of living in one of the greatest of the developed nations. We can assist in the evolution of one African community.
